Robins Nature & Visitor Center at Maymont - Dedicated to native wildlife of the Commonwealth and home to several animals including river otters, turtles and fish. The $21 million, 25,000-square-foot project also includes several small structures for patron interaction and viewing, a boardwalk, pedestrian bridge, concession stand, amphitheater, a 20 foot waterfall and 13 aquariums. Structural system includes heavy-timber trusses.
Burning Daylight Stables - A two-story 26,000 square-foot horse barn, home to over 28 thoroughbreds bred and trained to become champion racehorses. Includes cast-in-place concrete walls supporting heavy timber trusses, administrative center, functional observation tower with suspended steel spiral stair, and rainwater harvesting, storage and distribution system.
Lucky Strike Building/Tobacco Row - Richmond, Virginia - Evaluation of existing 80-year-old wood/steel and concrete building for retail, parking, and residential development.
Charlottesville Transit Service - New 35,000 sf bus maintenance complex project consists of a 9,000 sf renovated administrative / office building, a new 15,000 sf bus maintenance facility, a new bus wash and detailing building, a new fueling building and covered bus parking. Under a part of the maintenance facility, a concrete cistern stores the roof rainwater to use for irrigation. LEED Certified. Merit Award: James River Green Building Council
Charlottesville Boy's and Girl's Club - This new, two level recreation center is 24,000 sf set into the side of a hill. The facility has a gym on the lower level with classrooms and activity rooms on the main level. The structure is a steel frame with masonry exterior walls. The masonry walls act as shear walls.
Bank of America New Transformer Facility - Richmond, Virginia - $5.5 million new transformer facility. Structural steel frame with masonry perimeter walls.
Farmington Country Club Renovation - $5 million renovation, alterations, and additions to existing club. New multi-purpose fitness center. Concrete on metal deck, joints and beam framing, custom wood.
Sherwood Mausoleum - Salem, Virginia - $5 million new mausoleum and memorial consisting of 2,600 crypts and 260 columbaria. Received ACI Excellence in Concrete Award - Commercial.
Manassas Park Police Station - $4.5 million new 22,500 sf police station on three levels. Partially below grade. Building frame is structural steel with concrete floors on bar joists, concrete retaining walls, masonry shear walls and brick / stud non-bearing walls.
ICI Americas New Research Lab - Wilmington, Delaware - $4 million polymer research facility. Single-story conventional steel frame. Complex mechanical equipment on roof.
Cub Scout Camp - Goochland, Virginia - $3.5 million 13,000 sf, new "themed" scout camp consisting of main lodge, nature center, shower/pool house (castle), residences (western fort and indian tepees), pirate ship, and camp buildings constructed of glulam, conventional wood framing or CMU.
VPI - Biotechnology Lab Building - Blacksburg - $3 million Biotechnology Laboratory Building: 45,000 sf on five levels. Cast-in-place concrete frame.
Boar's Head Processing Facility - Jarratt, Virginia - $3 million turkey processing facility. Cleaning, processing, cooking, packaging, and shipping. Offices on mezzanine.
VPI - Addition to Cochrane Dining Hall - Blacksburg, Virginia - $2.5 million 8,000 sf addition to existing cafeteria. Cafeteria incorporated numerous thematic food pavilions.
American Family Fitness - Colonial Heights - $2.1 million one-story pre-engineered structure with 23 ft. eave height. Architectural canopies on three sides and stepped interior slabs.
Tyson Foods Production Facility - Glen Allen - $2 million pet food processing and storage facility. Processing, cold storage, mechanical, and support spaces. Prime consultant.
Norfolk Off Loading Facility - Vulcan Materials Company - New $2 million railcar offloading facility. Track supported by heavy steel beams over reinforced concrete pit. Supported in precast concrete piles. Designed to AREMA and Norfolk Southern Railroad Standards.
Philip Morris, Fall Protection Packages - Chesterfield County - $1.5 million Eight separate projects in six plants in the Richmond area. Projects were to provide safe access to equipment via platforms and walkways.
Cure Bin Dumper for MacTavish Machine Co. - Kentucky - $1.25 million machine design of conveyance of tobacco product. Analysis of dynamic forces.
Jack Quarry - Surge and Blending Tunnels - Vulcan Materials Company - $1 million heavy foundation systems for reinforced concrete tunnels within stone surge piles, some as high as 90 feet.
Chesterfield County Maintenance Buildings - Two 15,000 sq. ft pre-engineered metal buildings totalling $900,000 for offices and county vehicle maintenance.
Staunton/Augusta Rescue Squad Additions - Staunton, Virginia - $750,000 8,200 sf two-story additions.
Cooper Vineyard Tasting Room - Louisa, Virginia - $750,000 3,500 sf, two-story, wine tasting room. Conventional foundations.
Ross Building - Richmond - $600,000 renovation of three floors in the existing multi-story, concrete frame building to allow for central stairway.
Hangar at Charlottesville Airport - Virginia - $500,000 16,000 sf pre-engineered Hangar Facility. Foundation and floor slab.
Culpeper Train Depot - Virginia - $450,000.00 Partial renovation of the train station, which was built in 1904, included exterior masonry restoration and the addition of a mechanical mezzanine.
Gordonsville Energy Outbuildings - Ten outbuildings totalling $400,000.00 to enclose miscellaneous equipment for winter operation of the plant. Prefabricated modular buildings.
Indian Head Naval Warfare Station - Indian Head, Maryland - $350,000 Platforms and duct trusses to support mechanical ducts, piping and other equipment around and over building 571.
Purcelville Train Depot - Purcelville, Virginia - $300,000 Repair, renovation, and new foundation design of train depot.
Railcar Unloading Facility - Suffolk - Vulcan Materials Company - $250,000 Stone materials offloading facility on main CSX line. Reinforced concrete structure required complex sheetpile design.
Philip Morris, Security Building - Chesterfield County - $150,000 One-story 1500 sf building to centralize PMUSA's security operations. Light-gauge framing with CMU load bearing walls.
Hull Street Train Depot - Richmond - $30,000 Structural survey and repair documents for complete restoration of timber roof system. Originally built between 1900-1920.
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts - Balcony Addition - Richmond - $5,000 Structural study to add a balcony extension inside main lobby.
